ORSI AWARDS

FELLOWSHIP OF ORSI

In a calendar year, maximum three Senior Life members of ORSI are awarded Fellowship subject to assessment by the Standing Committee based on the merit of contributions towards the promotion and development of Operational Research and approval by the Central Council of ORSI. A Certificate of Fellowship is presented during the Annual Convention.

P. C. MAHALANOBIS AWARD

Operational Research Society of India was founded in 1957 under the leadership of Prof. P C Mahalanobis, who continued to guide the Society for first seven years after its inception. Prof. Mahalanobis, a distinguished educator, was the founder of Indian Statistical Institute and the prime architect of planning in India. He was the member of Planning Commission, Fellow of Royal Society and President of the International Statistical Institute.

ORSI instituted an award in honour of Prof. P C Mahalanobis to felicitate the distinguished educators and professionals in India during its Annual Convention. The award is presented to three distinguished educators in following disciplines:

  • Operational Research/Mathematics/Statistics/other disciplines of Science
  • Engineering
  • Management

The nominee must be Indian Citizen, Senior Life Member of ORSI and must have at least 10 years experience in teaching/ research. S/He must belong to reputed educational institution and involved in teaching OR/Management/ Engineering and actively involved in research/application in related discipline.

PROF. M. C. PURI MEMORIAL AWARD

The Operational Research Society of India has instituted the Prof. M. C. Puri Memorial Award in his honour. Prof. Puri died in a terrorist attack in 2005 while attending Annual Convention of ORSI. The award is presented every year during its Annual Convention. The nominee should be an individual and a Senior Life member of the Operational Research Society of India in good standing with most of his/her work carried out in India with significant impact on promoting Operational Research in India.

M. N. GOPALAN AWARD FOR BEST PH.D. THESIS IN OPERATIONAL RESEARCH

The award was introduced during 33rd Annual Convention in 2000. The thesis should have been completed within one year from the date of the Annual Convention and presented in the conference. A medal with the certificate is presented.

N. K. JAISWAL MEMORIAL AWARD FOR BEST THEORETICAL PAPER

The award was instituted by ORSI in honour of Prof. N. K. Jaiswal, who was the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal OPSEARCH. The award was introduced in 2005. The paper must have been presented in the Annual Convention. A medal with the certificate is presented.

B. G. RAGHAVENDRA MEMORIAL AWARD FOR BEST APPLICATION PAPER

The paper must have been presented in the Annual Convention. A medal with the certificate is presented.

B. G. RAGHAVENDRA MEMORIAL AWARD FOR BEST STUDENT PAPER

The paper must have at least one student author/ co-author and presented by the student in the Annual Convention. A medal with the certificate is presented.

P. R. S. REDDY ENDOWMENT LECTURE

This award was instituted during 47th Annual Convention in 2014. A medal with the certificate is presented.
